According to newest figures from the Census Bureau and the National Center for Health Statistics, life expectancy in the United States now ranks 42nd, down from 11th two decades earlier. *

Yet, the United States spends far more on healthcare than any other country. Nearly one out of every six dollars spent in the US is spent on healthcare.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, preventable illnesses and medical conditions comprise approximately 80% of the burden of illness and 90% of all healthcare costs and account for eight of the nine leading causes of death.

Every presidential candidate for 2008 has their own answer to America’s health care crisis.
